The Experience

Located just south of Puerto Villamil bay on Isabela Island, the Tintoreras Islet spans 12.4 hectares of rugged volcanic beauty. This kayak tour offers a silent, non-intrusive way to explore the islet’s perimeter. Because kayaks have no motors, you can glide right up to basking marine iguanas, resting pelicans, and the iconic Galapagos penguins without disturbing them. You’ll also have the chance to peer into the clear, shallow waters to spot sea turtles, colorful fish, and graceful manta rays swimming just beneath your hull.

Your Active Itinerary

Meeting Point & Safety Briefing

Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Puerto Villamil and take you to the launching point. A professional instructor will provide a safety briefing and basic paddling techniques for either your kayak or paddleboard.

Paddling the Bay

Push off from the beach and begin paddling across the calm bay waters. Instantly, you’ll be surrounded by nature, often escorted by playful sea lions swimming alongside your kayak.

Exploring the Islet Perimeter

Navigate around the volcanic rocks of the Tintoreras islet. This is the perfect time to spot Galapagos penguins diving for fish, marine iguanas sunbathing, and blue-footed boobies perched on the cliffs.

Return to Shore

After about 1.5 to 2 hours of active exploration on the water, we paddle back to the sandy shores of Puerto Villamil, concluding this eco-friendly adventure.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need previous kayaking experience?
No previous experience is required! The bay of Puerto Villamil is generally very calm, and our instructors will provide a safety briefing and teach you basic paddling techniques before you hit the water.
Will we be snorkeling on this tour?
This specific tour is 100% kayaking focused on observing wildlife from the surface of the water. If you wish to snorkel at Tintoreras, we recommend booking our dedicated “Tintoreras Snorkeling Tour.”
Can I choose between a single or double kayak?
Yes, depending on availability. We offer both single and double (tandem) kayaks, which are great for couples or parents paddling with a child. We also have stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) available upon request.
Is this activity safe for children?
Yes, this is a fantastic, family-friendly activity. Children can ride in a double kayak with an adult. Life jackets are provided in various sizes and are mandatory for all participants.
What wildlife will I see from the kayak?
Because kayaks are silent, wildlife doesn’t easily scare. You will likely see sea lions swimming next to you, Galapagos penguins on the rocks, marine iguanas, sea turtles surfacing for air, and various rays gliding beneath you.
