The Experience

Pinzón Island, spanning 18 square kilometers, is a hidden gem for marine life enthusiasts. This expedition is designed for those who want to immerse themselves in the Galapagos underwater world. From the turquoise depths of Penguin Bay to the secluded shores of La Fe, you will encounter whitetip reef sharks, golden rays, and a kaleidoscope of tropical fish in a pristine, volcanic setting.

Your Day Itinerary

07:30 AM — Hotel Pickup & Boarding

Our guide will meet you at your hotel to escort you to the Agermeyer Pier, where we will board our vessel for a scenic 2-hour navigation to Pinzón.

10:00 AM — Marine Exploration at Penguin Bay

The core of the adventure. We dive into the clear waters to observe sea turtles, “tintorera” reef sharks, and manta rays. This site is renowned for its high visibility and abundant biodiversity.

01:00 PM — Onboard Lunch & La Fe Visit

After a fresh lunch on the boat, we stop at La Fe (Santa Cruz Island). Depending on sea conditions, we may take a short walk to see marine iguanas and blue-footed boobies nesting near the shore.

03:30 PM — Optional Fishing & Return

On our way back to Puerto Ayora, the captain may set up fishing lines for a traditional experiential fishing session before dropping you back at your accommodation.

FAQ

Is this tour suitable for non-swimmers?
Since this is a snorkeling-focused tour (95% water), it is highly recommended that guests are comfortable in the water. However, life vests and guide assistance are always provided.
Will I see sharks?
Yes, Pinzón is famous for “Tintoreras” (Whitetip reef sharks). They are usually resting in the crevices or swimming nearby. They are not aggressive towards snorkelers.
Can I see penguins in Penguin Bay?
Despite its name, penguin sightings in Pinzón are occasional rather than guaranteed. While they do inhabit the area, they are more frequently seen in the colder waters of Isabela or Fernandina. However, the bay offers incredible sightings of sharks and turtles.
How cold is the water?
Water temperature varies by season: from **21°C to 26°C** (70°F – 78°F). Between June and November, the water is cooler. We provide **long-sleeve wetsuits** at no extra cost to ensure you stay comfortable during your snorkeling sessions.
How many people are on the boat?
To ensure an intimate experience and minimal environmental impact, our groups are limited to a maximum of 12 travelers per boat.
